A 41-page Japandi playbook for renters. Four rooms, named paint codes for two brands, a 20-item shopping index with price bands, and eight weekend projects.

Japandi is Scandinavian warmth with Japanese restraint. White oak and smoked walnut, raw Belgian linen, honed limestone and stoneware, and one dark anchor per room so the light palette has something to sit against.

This book prices the look for a rental. Paint colours are named for two brands. Products are named by retailer so you know what to search for. Every project in it uses a removable or reversible method.

What is in the 41 pages
Seven opening pages set the style up: era and origin, materials, references, the colour palette, and master finishes. Sixteen pages cover four rooms. The rest is a renter playbook: rules, proportions, room commitments, a style diagnostic, maker provenance, eight projects, a thrift guide, substitutions, and a two-page shopping index.
The four rooms
Living room, bedroom, kitchen and dining, bathroom. Each room gets four pages: the room itself, an education spread, a mixed moodboard, and a shop-the-look page.
Paint and materials
Five paint colours, each with a Benjamin Moore name and code and a Sherwin-Williams name and code. Sumi Ink is BM Onyx 2133-10 or SW Tricorn Black 6258. Six signature materials: white oak, smoked walnut, honed limestone, raw Belgian linen, stoneware, and blackened iron.
The shopping index
Twenty items grouped by room, each with a price band and the page it appears on. A Burrard sofa runs $900 to $1,300. A Hasami porcelain set runs $125 to $175.
Weekend projects
Eight builds with a materials list and a running cost, from $10 to $110. A washi paper pendant, a hinoki bath plinth, a linen sofa slipcover, a floating oak shelf, a shoji-style closet door, and three more.
Renter rules and substitutions
Two pages of renter rules, then eight substitution pages: the designer piece, the cheaper piece, and why the trade holds up. A Wegner CH24 at $750 to $1,050 a chair against an IKEA Lisabo at $80 to $120, both solid ash with the same paper-cord seat construction.
What format is the file
PDF, 41 pages. It opens on a phone, a laptop, or a printer. No app and no login.
Are the products shown clickable
No. Retailers and product names are printed so you know what to search for. Nothing routes out to a store.
Are the prices real
They are researched estimate bands, not live quotes. Check the current figure before you buy.
Will any of this work in a rental
Two pages of renter rules cover what to avoid. Pendants are four-screw swaps, cabinet hardware changes with a Phillips-head, and floor-to-ceiling linen curtains hide builder-grade window trim.
How do I know Japandi is the right style
A four-panel diagnostic sets wabi-sabi beside its lookalikes: cold minimalism, objects with a filter over them, farmhouse rustic, and all-white Scandinavian, with the tell for each.
